We are in this together
This is head up by Khanyisa’s parents committee in collaboration with some staff, where regular groups are run that allow parents to connect and feel supported and understood. It’s also a great forum to share useful resources and contacts as a parent of a child with different needs.
Some family support meetings include professional training, or input from counsellors. These gatherings are open to anyone in the community who has a child with different needs.

“Finding a first school for any child is a big and exciting moment in all parent’s lives, but for a special needs families it is also a moment touched with trepidation and worry.
From the first moment we visited Khanyisa and saw the way that the wonderful staff care and love for all of the children at the school, often in challenging circumstances, we knew that we had found a school for our little one.
It’s a joy to drop off Finn at school safe in the knowledge that he will be cared for and loved, and then it is another wonderful moment when we collect him after another happy day at Khanyisa. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to any special needs families in search of an amazing school!”

We have therefore created a past student’s association, so that where ever life might take us we can keep in touch and keep building.

We take great pride in hiring the best of the best at Khanyisa, and so we like to think that becoming part of our team is somewhat of a privilege. We are invested in nurturing and developing our staff holistically, on both a professional and personal level. The healthier and more fulfilled a person is the more impactful their work will be.

Being a staff member at Khanyisa is what motivates me every single day to get out of bed and do the work that I love. It means working in an environment where I feel supported, loved, understood and seen. Where I am free to be creative and explore my own skills and abilities. It means being surrounded by the most incredible and inspiring team, who celebrate me, acknowledge and uplift me. And it means working with the most special kiddies and their families, who make my day, everyday. I have never worked at a place where such optimism, hope and beautiful values are at the epicentre of everything that we do, and every decision that we make.

We know that finding the right person, with the right skills to work with your child can be a challenge on its own. Sometimes even finding a special needs friendly shopping centre can seem impossible.
